Custom Steel Shop Building in Sidney, Montana

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc. manufactured and supplied this prefabricated steel building on behalf of a client in Sidney, Montana, in June of 2009.

Soon after, it began serving as an office, shop and headquarters for Rau Designs Inc., a custom sign company specializing in graphic design, digital printing, vehicle wraps and indoor and outdoor graphics and signage, among other services. Expansive and reliable, the building features top-quality steel construction, creating a reliable, comfortable and inviting place to work.

An Accommodating, Multipurpose Metal Workshop

Rau Designs’ owner made several of his own enhancements to this building after its arrival on the jobsite, adding an upstairs apartment, roof and wall insulation, an air-conditioning system and radiant floor heat to help improve interior comfort for company staff. The owner then sold the building in 2014 to a new owner who rents it out to other business with commercial and industrial interests.

Building Specifications

Rugged, built to last and inherently low maintenance by design, the building stands 40’x80’x16’ in size and features an expansive, clear-span design conducive to storing equipment and inventory while leaving plenty of room for production. A hardwearing Galvalume metal roof with a 2:12 pitch sits overhead, helping protect the building against corrosion and the Montana elements, and the building itself features a bright blue exterior and complementing white trim, resulting in considerable street appeal.

Sidney and the surrounding Montana landscape experience variable weather patterns and seasonal snowfall that tends to exceed national averages, and as such, the building features several accommodations made to enhance durability with respect to the climate of the area. These include a 90-mph wind speed rating and a 30-pound snow load.
