Industrial Steel Building in Harvey, North Dakota

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc. was proud to manufacture and supply this pre-engineered metal building for a client in Harvey, North Dakota, in mid-December of 2016.

Now an agricultural building for Firebird Artisan Mills, a leading producer of gluten-free flours and mixes used in commercial baking and food manufacturing, the building features top-of-the-line steel construction and an expansive, secure space to perform gluten-free and ancient grain milling.

Expanded Operations

In its Harvey facility, Firebird Artisan Mills produces gluten-free products, exclusively. This is in sharp contrast to numerous other gluten-free food purveyors, many of which produce both gluten-free and non-gluten-free goods on the same equipment, which can prove problematic for those with extreme food sensitivities. The steel commercial facility also allows workers to mill, blend and package products in a single, central location, speeding up delivery times and enhancing quality control.

A part of central North Dakota’s Wells County, the city of Harvey lies not far from the Lonetree Wildlife Management Area. It sits about 18 miles northwest of Fessenden and roughly 12 miles northwest of Manfred.

Building Specifications

Following a simple erection process, the building offers a finished size of 44’x30’x28.3’, and it boasts a striking, Stone Beige exterior and a rugged, corrosion-resistant single-slope roof with a 0.25:12 roof overhead. Designed to last the long haul with only minimal maintenance, the prefabricated agricultural building holds up far better than standard wood construction when it comes to variable weather and prolonged usage, maintaining its structural integrity in the face of moisture, pests and other potential building hazards.

The structure that now houses milling operations also features several accommodations made with respect for the climate of Harvey and the surrounding region, which is an area prone to distinct seasonal temperature changes and often heavy seasonal snowfall. Such accommodations include a 115-mph wind speed rating and a 45-psf snow load. Additional project characteristics include (5) framed openings, among them (3) 3070 openings enclosing (3) 3070 walk doors and (2) 8’x10 openings, each enclosing one of (2) 8’x10’ overhead doors.
